Dome Greenhouses, Natures Sacred Geometry
Dome Greenhouses are nature’s perfect structure and offer a unique growing environment. Domes are half spheres. Almost everything in our known universe is in the shape of a sphere. A dome is an element of architecture that resembles the hollow upper half of a sphere. A dome can be thought of as an arch which has been rotated around its central vertical axis.
Dome structures can be made of various materials have a long architectural lineage extending into prehistory. Thus domes, like arches, have a great deal of structural strength when properly built and can span large open spaces without interior supports. Allowing more space inside the structure. At the same time, they dramatically shrink our environmental footprint, both individually and collectively. These same features make the dome some people’s idea of an ideal home design contribute to its appeal as Dome Greenhouses.
The American Institute of Architects has acclaimed the geodesic dome “the strongest, lightest and most efficient means of enclosing space known to man”. They can handle hurricane winds, extreme snow loads and are the safest structure in an earthquake.
Not only is the dome aerodynamic, but it has a dynamic center of gravity that stands strong against wind. Gravitational forces are not linear, but spherical. The Earth’s center is the origin of the gravitational forces of the Earth. This dynamic is present in all of nature and is also present in the dome. It is physics, tried and tested, “Nature’s own Sacred Geometry”.
R. Buckminster Fuller. Inventor, architect, engineer, mathematician, poet and cosmologist was one of the most enlightened mystics of the last century stated: “Domes are the Strongest, lightest and most efficient means of enclosing space yet, known to man.”
Dome Greenhouses, Power of the Pyramids in your Backyard
All life is sacred. All of life is geometric. Thus, geometry is the foundation of all of life. Geometry is the universal language of creation. It is the structure of our universe. The geodesic dome is a multidimensional pyramid. Pyramid power at it’s finest.
The geodesic Dome Greenhouse is the lightest, strongest, and most cost-effective structure ever devised. The geodesic dome is able to cover more space without internal supports than any other enclosure. It becomes proportionally lighter and stronger the larger it is. The geodesic dome is a breakthrough in shelter, not only in cost-effectiveness, but in ease of construction and energy efficiency. The geometry allows proper circulation of the ambient air with little energy input.
There are two reasons Dome Greenhouses are energy-efficient. The ambient airflow inside the Dome Greenhouse is continuous, no stagnant corners. They requiring less energy to circulate air and maintain even temperatures. The energy required to heat and cool a Dome Greenhouse is approximately 30% less than a conventional rectangle building. The second is the high volume, to-surface-area ratio, requiring less building materials to enclose more space. The lower the ratio of a building’s outside perimeter to its enclosed gardening area, the less energy is required for buildings, the heating and cooling savings are built right in. It is a beautiful, working model of the wisdom, practicality and well-being that is the foundation of any sustainable gardening lifestyle.
Through its brilliant design construction and renewable energy use, Dome Greenhouses provides an ideal environment for growing fresh, organic and nutritious vegetables, herbs and fruits throughout the year. Dome Greenhouses began as simple structures that were meant to keep tropical plants warm during the winter using less energy. Later they were, and are, used to extend the gardeners growing season to all year-long. Dome Greenhouses do all this, plus they can do things no other Greenhouses can do. The geodesic design is self-insulating, and amplifies winter lighting. Making them best choice of the 21st Century gardener.
The sphere has 25% less surface area per volume enclosed than any other shape. The dome combines the inherent stability of triangles with the advantageous volume-to-surface-area ratio of a sphere. The larger the dome, the more efficient it becomes. This is demonstrated by doubling the diameter, which encloses eight times the volume. This means there’s more room to grow in a Dome Greenhouse.
Many progressive architects replicate nature’s designs to ensure structural integrity. R. Buckminster Fuller, was a man ahead of his time. He published the math for his geodesic dome in the early 1950’s. He was immediately contacted by a German scientist who proclaimed it is the exact math found in the cell wall. Current scientists have named nano particles “Bucky Balls”. Russian scientists have photos from space showing the earth as an icosahedron.
The icosahedron has 12 vertices, 20 faces and 30 sides. It is one of the most interesting and useful of all polyhedra. Buckminster Fuller based his designs of geodesic domes around the icosahedron. The icosahedron is built around the pentagon and the golden section. At first glance this may seem absurd, since every face of the icosahedron is an equilateral triangle. As it turns out, however, the triangular faces of the icosahedron result from its pentagonal nature.
The Geodesic Dome Greenhouse are the most innovative design imaginable for a Sustainable Greenhouse. They are easy to construct either from geodesic greenhouse plans or kits. It’s innovative shape allows it to withstand even the heaviest of snow loads. Dome Greenhouses are light and sturdy. They can be portable, which means you may not need any building permits for them if made to be moved. Please check with your local codes.
The spherical shape of the geodesic Dome Greenhouse means you don’t have to worry about how to place it on your site. The spherical shape also means sunlight is always striking part of the dome in a perpendicular fashion for maximum solar gain. A Dome Greenhouse will always gives one the maximum sunshine possible naturally. The spherical shape also creates the least heat transfer surface possible for maximum heat retention during the winter months. Since Geodesic Domes are the strongest structure known in the architectural world. They cover the most amount of space with the least amount of material. That’s Eco Friendly and Sustainable. Our Doowan Dome Greenhouses are portable, quick and easy to assemble and yet can withstand the harshest elements.
Geodesic Dome Greenhouses use 25% fewer materials to enclose a given space as compared to conventional rectangular designs. Making then Eco friendly and Economical. The curved interior offers superior circulation with no dead air spaces. Geodesic Dome Greenhouses gain great strength by distributing loading through all structural members. Their rounded shape naturally deflects wind and sheds snow accumulation. Any geodesic Dome Greenhouse kit we offer can have many uses and may be easily converted into a structure that suits a different application, (for example, a swimming pool or hot tub cover in the winter and a greenhouse in the summer). Now that’s innovative. One may just kick their plants out in the cold and live in their Dome.
From Michigan winters to Arizona summers, people live comfortably in our Domes. Safe in high winds, heavy snows and earth quakes, our architecturally engineered domes resonate with the power of nature. Ones gardening will too. Illuminate your garden with natural light creating an atmosphere of being close to nature in a comfortable and energy-efficient environment.

Clear Vinyl Covering
Dome Greenhouse covers are made of durable, water/mildew/UV resistant, flame retardant fabrics. The luminous thin wall allows for solar passive heating.
Our Dome Greenhouse is made of clear vinyl for sunbathing and star-gazing. Hey, aren’t you suppose to be gardening? The life expectancy is 3 to 7 years, depending on the UV exposure. The main consideration in choosing the dome skin or dome fabric for your dome is longevity. The two causes of deterioration are UV and mildew. If you live in a dry desert-like area with high UV, we recommend SunLite painted dome skin with Thermoshield, which reflects heat and UV off of the dome cover and dramatically extends the cover’s life expectancy. We also recommend Tropical Plus dome skin fabric because of its additional laminate coating protection against UV.
If you live in a damp or wet area with high moisture, we recommend Tropical and Tropical Plus (vinyl) fabrics because they have a smooth surface, are easy to clean and are more resistant to mold and mildew.
